About This Project

Broughton Consulting was engaged by the owner of the Electric Violin Shop to advise him on business succession options, initially with the idea of selling to an investor. In addition to making investor introductions, Broughton Consulting raised the possibility of transitioning to employee ownership and introduced the owner to Carolina Common Enterprise and the Local Enterprise Assistance Fund. With help from those entities, as well as the Duke Law School Community Enterprise Clinic, the transaction to convert to a worker owned co-op closed May 13, 2016. Read more or watch a video produced in 2016 by UNC-TV and a more recent video produced in 2021 by the NCEOC (North Carolina Employee Ownership Center), interviewing Blaise Kielar, EVS Founder.
